De geruchten ging hard in het rond. Er zou iets op komst zijn rondom Wacken Open Air. Zou het toch doorgaan? Ja en nee. Nee, er komt geen fysiek festival. Ja, er gaat iets zeer groots komen. Dat is Wacken World Wide.
Dat staat voor een groots online festival van 29 juli tot en met 1 augustus. Exclusieve shows van onder andere Kreator, Heaven Shall Burn, In Extremo, Blind Guardian en Beyond The Black zullen te zien zijn. Er gaat echter nog veel meer te beleven vallen. Thomas Jensen vertelt over dit format: “It is a huge pleasure for us to finally be able to unveil the news today. The entire team has worked with great ambition and motivation over the past few weeks and months to implement the new Wacken World Wide concept in order to put together an overall package never seen before!” says the W:O:A festival co-founder.
Holger Hübner zegt: “After the cancellation of this year’s festival season, the new format is a ray of hope that allows us to celebrate with our loyal fans, partners and artists in an unprecedented way,” adds the W:O:A festival co-founder. “We look forward to your feedback and reactions and can’t wait to bring Wacken around the world!”
Natuurlijk is dit geen vervanger voor het festival. Het is echter wel een mooie tegemoetkoming voor de metalhead. Voor de eerste echte fysieke versie van Wacken Open Air zal men moeten wachten tot in 2021. Dan wordt het festival van 28 tot en met 30 juli gehouden. Men hoopt dat dan alle restricties door corona lang en breed voorbij zijn.
Kortom, deze zomer staat www niet voor world wide web, maar voor Wacken World Wide!
