De Amerikaanse independent artrockband Ok Goodnight werkt toe naar de release van hun derde studioalbum stop/go, dat op 12 juni 2026 verschijnt. In aanloop naar de plaat bracht de band inmiddels de singles ‘22’ en ‘Spiral’ uit, beide vergezeld van een officiële videoclip.
Op 17 april verscheen eerst ‘22’, een nummer waarin de groep opnieuw hun kenmerkende mix van dromerige soundscapes, krachtige dynamiek en emotionele vocalen laat horen. Tekstueel draait de track om thema’s als verraad, vergeving, eenzaamheid en de bittersweet kant van afscheid nemen.
Volgens frontvrouw Casey Lee Williams betekende het nummer een belangrijk nieuw hoofdstuk voor de band:
“Saying this song was a step in a new direction for us would be an understatement. Creating this song, which was the first demo we began writing after the release of “The Fox and the Bird”, gave us hope and got us excited about writing new music with the band at a time of uncertainty and change. This song explores the complex themes of betrayal, forgiveness, loneliness, and the bittersweet nature of endings.”
De bijbehorende videoclip vertaalt die introspectieve sfeer naar filmische beelden met invloeden uit popart, arthouse en formalisme.
Op 15 mei volgde vervolgens de tweede single ‘Spiral’, eveneens met videoclip.
Casey Lee Williams vertelt over ‘Spiral’:
“After hearing the short and simple phone recording of a piano motif that Martín de Lima came up with, we immediately knew that it would grow to be something special. What came next would be one of our strangest, yet most inspired songs to date. With a unique combination of raw vocals, luscious synthesizers, textured samples, and chaotic woodwinds, we aimed to translate feelings of regret, nostalgia, and unconditional love. This track in particular really feels like it’s marked a musical shift for us in an important way.”

Met de combinatie van rauwe vocalen, rijke synthesizers, gelaagde samples en chaotische woodwindpartijen laat ‘Spiral’ opnieuw horen hoe Ok Goodnight hun sound verder uitbreidt richting experimentele prog- en artrock.
Het aankomende album stop/go verschijnt volledig onafhankelijk, zonder platenlabel, zodat de band volledige artistieke vrijheid behoudt. De groep werd opgericht door oud-studenten van het prestigieuze Berklee College of Music en bestaat naast Williams uit Martín de Lima, Augusto Bussio en Peter de Reyna.
Na eerdere releases als Limbo (2019), Under the Veil (2020) en het veelgeprezen conceptalbum The Fox and the Bird (2023), lijkt stop/go opnieuw een ambitieuze stap vooruit te worden. De band omschrijft de plaat als een zoektocht naar thema’s als oorzaak en gevolg, vrije wil, liefde en menselijke verbindingen.
