Sepultura kondigt afscheidstournee aan

Na veertig jaar houdt de band het dus voor gezien. Sepultura heeft namelijk de plannen voor de afscheidstournee aangekondigd. Die tournee zal in het najaar van 2024 in Europa en het Verenigd Koninkrijk neerstrijken. Nederland en België worden daarbij dus gelukkig niet overgeslagen.

De afscheidstournee zal Sepultura op 3 november naar Den Bosch brengen. Daar spelen de heren dan op The Rock Circus, welke dus ook een vervolg zal krijgen. Twee dagen later is Brussel aan de beurt. Daar zal Sepultura in de Ancienne Belgique een show geven. Op deze dagen zullen Obituary, Jesus Piece en Jinjer ook van de partij zijn. Zij reizen met Sepultura gedurende dit deel van hun afscheid mee. Overigens wordt dit deel van de tour afgetrapt in Parijs. Dat is dan de enige kans voor de Fransen. Vervolgens zijn er wel de nodige data in Duitsland bijvoorbeeld. Wellicht komen er nog data bij, want sommige dagen zijn niet gevuld.

Throughout the next 18 months we will celebrate 40 years of existence together along with our loyal fans on a farewell tour across the entire globe.It will be a celebration of the past and the present for one final time.

After 4 decades filled with ups and downs, having visited 80 countries and countless different cultures, we’ve had the chance to become Brazil’s messenger to the world and spread our colours and rhythms worldwide. With our latest studio album Quadra, a highlight of our career, we added an unforgettable chapter followed by the SepulQuarta experience that helped us to overcome the difficult times of the pandemic together. We will unite our forces for one final, strong farewell. And all of you can be a part of it.

During this 40th anniversary tour, we will record 40 live tracks in 40 different cities and release a massive compilation of our best, most energetic moments on stage. We are happy and very grateful for everything we could witness within the past four decades. We have released great albums and played unforgettable shows, cultivated friendships, met our idols, contributed to placing Brazilian metal on the world map, and therefore feel that we can leave the music scene with a sense of duty fulfilled.

Over de band

Waar de ogen voor de metal in de eerste helft van de jaren ’80 op de Verenigde Staten en Europa waren gericht, kwamen er ineens vier heren uit Brazilië een stevige duit in het zakje doen. Al snel ontpopte Sepultura zich tot een band van het kaliber dat zij anderen beïnvloeden. Ondanks het vertrek van de broers Cavalera gaf Sepultura niet op.

Met Derrick Green aan het front streed de band zich terug naar de top. De meest recente studioplaten zijn pure kwaliteitsalbums, waar geldt dat Sepultura nimmer zichzelf kopieert. Toen zij bijvoorbeeld halverwege de jaren ’90 ineens de inheemse muziek op hun metal van invloed liet zijn, ging een wereld open. Meermaals heeft deze band zich opnieuw uitgevonden. Beneath The Remains, Arise, Chaos A.D., Roots en later Machine Messiah zijn platen die bij elke metalhead aanwezig zullen zijn. Veertig mooie jaren dus, maar nog wel een afscheidstournee.
