The Hollywood Vampires, de supergroep met rockicoon Alice Cooper, Aerosmith-gitarist Joe Perry en Hollywood superster Johnny Depp, zijn terug met het explosieve tweede album Rise.
Al na enkele seconden van de openingstrack I Want My Now is het duidelijk dat de band een bijzonder album heeft gemaakt en dat de chemie tussen de individuen onmiskenbaar is als ze samenkomen. Vergeet de reputaties van deze sterren, want Rise is een puur en onbevangen rockalbum gemaakt door de beste muzikanten uit het genre. Releasedatum van het album is 21 juni.
In tegenstelling tot het in 2015 verschenen debuut bevat Rise grotendeels nieuw geschreven materiaal, maar in de geest van de originele missie van The Hollywood Vampires ook drie covers geschreven en opgenomen door collega-rockers die veel te vroeg zijn overleden. Zo horen we een intieme en intense versie van Heroes van David Bowie, schitterend uitgevoerd door Johnny Depp, People Who Died van de Jim Carroll Band en Johnny Thunder’s You Can’t Put Your Arms Around A Memory, gezongen door Joe Perry. Rauwe rocktracks zoals The Boogieman Surprise en Who’s Laughing Now vangen de ruwe, natuurlijke en vreugdevolle attitude die The Hollywood Vampires in de live-shows ten toon spreiden. Het album laat echter ook een andere kant van de groep horen met nummers als We Gotta Rise, een politiek getint nummer in de stijl van Alice Coopers Elected, en het psychedelische en epische Mr. Spider.
Alice Cooper: ‘Rise is not only a totally different animal than the first Vampires album, it is unique to anything I’ve ever been a part of. I approached it very differently than I usually do when working on an album. Each of us; Joe, Johnny, Tommy and myself have written songs on this album. What is different though is that I didn’t try to change any songs to be more Alice-like. Because each of us has different influences, the sound of this album is very cool. I think that with this album, we are establishing what the Vampires’ sound really is, whereas with the first album we were more tipping our hats to our fallen rock n roll brothers.’
Joe Perry: ‘Rise came from pure creative energy, which is just like playing live with the Vampires. The record showcases everyone doing what they do best without anyone looking over our shoulders. There was no pressure or deadlines, allowing us to write and record an album that is one of the freest and most honest sounding records I’ve been part of. I can’t wait to perform some of these tunes live for our fans.’
