Het was 2020 toen vroeg in het jaar een metalavond in Musicon, Den Haag, was waar er een viertal bands te bewonderen waren. Diabolical, Devilish en Souldrainer werden vergezeld door de dames van Frantic Amber. Deze van origine Zweedse band strooide met een portie melodieuze death metal om ‘u’ tegen te zeggen. Toen speelde de band ter promotie van Bellatrix. Nu komt Frantic Amber met de opvolger daarvan en dat was een mooie reden voor een interview.
De vragen van het interview met Frantic Amber zijn beantwoord door Elizabeth en Mio. De eerste staat bekend als frontvrouw van de band en zorgt voor die krachtige vocalen. Mio is de gitariste en samen met Elizabeth zijn zij al sinds het begin bij deze vanuit Zweden opererende band betrokken.
Het interview met Frantic Amber
WRR: ‘There is a lot changed after Bellatrix was released. What is the biggest change for Frantic Amber looking onto your new release?‘
FA: ‘The subject matter is much darker, melancholic and more brutal. We are still inspired by so many different genres and blend them together into our version of melodic death metal. After Bellatrix, we had a lot of riffs that wouldn’t fit and that started the idea of making an album with a darker touch.’
Inspiration
WRR: ‘What is used as inspiration for the upcoming record?‘
FA: ‘Death Becomes Her, our new album is a concept album about female serial killers and explores a more dark and brutal side of Frantic Amber. Both the music and lyrics are inspired by this and tell their gruesome stories. For example ‘Hell’s Belle’ has a lot of black metal influences, ‘Jolly Jane’ is our most brutal song on the album which is a nod to brutal and more traditional death metal. ‘Black Widow’ has more thrash riffs, ‘Angel Maker’ is very melancholic, and the list goes on. Some songs also have epic orchestral parts and classical influences.’
4 piece & changes
WRR: ‘How is it to act as a four piece?‘
FA: ‘It’s no different than being a five piece. Officially we are four members, but live we normally bring a session guitarist.’
WRR: ‘If your music could change one thing, what would like it was changing in the world and why?‘
FA: ‘We would love to inspire more girls and women to listen to and play extreme metal. We hope that the younger generations continue to find their way to the metal community.’
WRR: ‘What are the plans for when the release is there?‘
FA: ‘We will have a release fest in Stockholm 4/4 on the same day, celebrating by playing the whole album live from start to finish for the first time ever! After that we have some more shows booked and will do everything we can to promote the album.’
