De Britse rockband Boston Manor heeft vandaag een akoestische versie uitgebracht van ‘Drowned In Gold’, een nummer afkomstig van het debuutalbum Be Nothing.. De track verschijnt als onderdeel van de speciale Be Nothing. 10 Year Anniversary-heruitgave, die op 14 augustus uitkomt via Pure Noise Records.
Het originele album Be Nothing., dat in 2016 verscheen en werd geproduceerd door Neil Kennedy, betekende een belangrijk moment in de carrière van Boston Manor. De plaat werd geprezen door fans en critici vanwege de combinatie van alternatieve rockinvloeden en krachtige, emotionele songwriting. Met nummers als ‘Laika’, ‘Lead Feet’ en ‘Fossa’ zette het album de koers uit voor de verdere ontwikkeling van de band tot de innovatieve rockband die Boston Manor vandaag de dag is.
Op de jubileumuitgave krijgen meerdere nummers van het album een nieuwe akoestische uitvoering. Naast ‘Drowned In Gold’ verschijnen ook speciale akoestische versies van ‘Laika’ en ‘Lead Feet’.
Gitarist Mike Cunniff vertelt over het belang van ‘Drowned In Gold’:
“Drowned In Gold was a really important song for us. It was written and recorded as a stand alone single with Mike Sapone while we were demoing new songs for Welcome To The Neighbourhood. In my eyes it was the perfect transition from Be Nothing. to Welcome To The Neighbourhood and allowed us to become more experimental with our music.”
Ook bassist Dan Cunniff blikt terug op het ontstaan van Be Nothing. en de invloed die het album had op de band:
“For me; writing and recording Be Nothing. was one of the most exciting things we had done at that time. Doing the ‘band thing’ for many years previous to Boston Manor, I’d always wanted to be involved in writing a full length record but never had the opportunity to do it properly. So by the time the opportunity came round, I felt like we were all hyper focused on what we wanted to achieve and also keeping in mind what this record would sound like in 10 years from that point.”
Volgens Cunniff bewijst het succes van Be Nothing. dat de band zijn doelen heeft bereikt:
“I believe we achieved our goals with Be Nothing. because I believe this record holds up even today 10 years on. The record did more than we thought it would do for us. It opened up so many doors, especially in the touring world. Having the opportunity to travel all around the world because of one record is pretty insane!”
De release van Be Nothing. zorgde onder meer voor Boston Manor’s eerste eigen headline-tour door het Verenigd Koninkrijk en Europa, waarbij de shows volledig uitverkocht raakten.

De Be Nothing. 10 Year Anniversary-editie verschijnt op 14 augustus via Pure Noise Records en is verkrijgbaar op cd, digitale platforms en in verschillende speciale vinylvarianten via de volgende link.
