Räum. Het is misschien een naam die niet veel mensen direct wat zegt, maar die wel direct moet triggeren. Wat doet die umlaut daar? Of is het echt een woord? De band uit Liège, Luik, speelt op vrijdag 17 mei in Musicon op Loud & Heavy. Een mooie gelegenheid om Den Haag en omstreken bekend te laten geraken met dit collectief. Vandaar dat White Room Reviews een kort interview met Räum had.
Het interview ter promotie van de show van Räum in Musicon is niet voor niks. Räum maakte namelijk indruk op de redactie van White Room Reviews bij hun show in La Bratcave, te Lille. Daar speelde Räum op een heugelijk avond met Miasmes en Hyrgal. Die eerstgenoemde zal op 17 mei, net als Morvigor en Celesterre, ook spelen. Introduction
WRR: “Räum is not a familiar name, also with the ‘umlaut’ on the ‘a’. Could you explain the name?”
OJ: “The definition of RÄUM is multiple, it is both a term that brings together the notions of emptiness, absence and chaos. It’s also a demon that sows destruction and engenders human alienation. RÄUM is the reality joining the myth! At the crossroads are our deepest fears and unacknowledged hopes. (NB : the umlaut is purely aesthetic, or for our mothers)”
WRR: “When you have to explain your music, how would you explain it?”
OJ: “We consider ourselves as a post black metal band. We don’t use all the classic codes from the black metal and go get some influences in slower bands like AmenRa. It’s kind of a blend of two different styles and in that sense we feel like we have something specific to us.”
Influences and beer
WRR: ” What is the influence of Liège to the music of Räum?”
OJ: “Honestly, not a lot. We are more influenced bands coming from the Flemish part. Wiegedood for example. We also tend to look towards the Netherlands with bands like Fluisteraars. There are not a lot of black metal bands in the Liege area so we go search for influences elsewhere.”
WRR: ” As Belgium is famous for beers, what is your favorite and why?”
OJ: “There is one served draft in our region called C.T.S. (Crowned Tree Scotch), but it’s pretty difficult to find elsewhere. If we had to pick another one, it would be Orval. Easy (kind of) drinking trappist beer with a very particular taste. We can’t name another beer tasting like this. A must try!”
WRR: “Your shows are very intens. What could the people in The Hague expect from this show, so why do they have to be early?”
OJ: “As you mentioned it, for us intensity is the key. We like not to rely on artefacts and go straight to the point with our raw energy. Why be there early? It’s the best way to get started for the night and to warm up for our good friends in Miasmes.”

De belangrijkste vraag is natuurlijk: ‘Hoe worden tickets bemachtigd?’ Dat kan via deze link. In de voorverkoop kost een kaartje slechts €12. De gelukzoekers die tot op het moment aan de deur wachten, zullen €3 meer betalen. Tenminste, als er dan nog zijn.
Dit alles gebeurt weer in samenwerking met Kompaan, het beste Haagse biertje, en Saramacca Food. Daarbij zal wederom €1 per ticket gedoneerd worden aan de Voedselbank Haaglanden.
