Nieuwe single in aanloop nieuw album Venomous Concept

Eigenlijk is het iets dat niet klopt. Het is 2023 en de nieuwe plaat van Venomous Concept is aanstaande. Een muziekliefhebber zal dat niet vreemd vinden, maar de diehard volger wel. Dit jaar zijn er namelijk geen presidentsverkiezingen in de Verenigde Staten, iets waar al hun voorgaande albums gepaard mee gingen. Feit is namelijk dat Venomous Concept op 24 februari met een nieuw album komt.

Alsof dat nog niet genoeg is, heeft de supergroep ook een nieuwe single online gezet. ‘Factured’ is afkomstig van dat nieuwe album van Venomous Concept. Die plaat gaat overigens The Good Ship Lollipop heten en verschijnt dus komende week. Check hier single.

“I was sitting outside the recording studio in Cambridge on a summer’s day thinking about this song, lyrically and vocally,” zegt Shane Embury. “We were a few months into the pandemic and Kevin had gotten into the U.K. to record his vocals for the Venomous Concept album, which was a relief! I sat there wondering what was happening in our world. Fiction seemed to have merged with reality where we all experienced so much stress, so much anxiety. I am not special – the pandemic affected us all in ways we don’t yet realize.

“Music was always my comfort, but during this time my family needed me to be strong and I really wasn’t. I was breaking apart and trying to figure out how to put myself back together, and hopefully leave some of the bad bits behind. Memories came – my childhood, my parents, my family, my children, my friends. Then the words to ‘Fractured’ came…I am still piecing myself back together, trying to be just good enough.”

Over Venomous Conept

Venomous Concept zag het licht toen Napalm Death-icoon Shane Embury de handen ineen sloeg met Kevin Sharp. Die twee kennen elkaar natuurlijk ook van Lock Up. Daarnaast gold Sharp als een belangrijke pion in het machtige Brutal Truth. Inmiddels zit ook John Cooke ook al meer dan tien jaar in de band. Dat geldt niet voor de drummer. Carl Stokes is pas sinds afgelopen jaar in de band. Misschien dat hij dan ook verantwoordelijk is voor deze afwijkende tijd van releasen.
