Het was in de week dat Steve Vai met zijn nieuwe plaat kwam en dat Joe Satriani ook een aankondiging deed dat Gia G met haar ep Cosmic Wave kwam. De release, welke uit is gekomen middels Sliptrick Records, gaf White Room Reviews een reden om een interview te houden met Gia G.

Lees hieronder wat Gia G te vertellen heeft in dit interview over onder andere Cosmic Wave en haar gitaren. Tevens doet Gia G een woordje over de nummers op Cosmic Wave.

Interview

‘Intricate Fusion – A real step forward in Gia’s musical journey. Taking her Tap Harmonic Tapping Technique to another level with fusion guitar leads and phrases while using jazz scales and modes with some intense legato playing plus whammy bar craziness. Mark George’s drumming is excellent with a great groove and feel, flowing and bringing out more of the overall song. Paul Engle on bass is also outstanding, playing in the fusion world of bass, mixed in with rock and blues, creating his own composition within the song.
The different sections of the song change, another Gia G signature style which she did on previous releases. The Ladder. Interwoven in the track, Gia shows her keyboard creativity with great bluesy, jazzy lead playing to the acoustic ending. The 3 members of the group are a power house with the experimental new wave style on this song and EP. Intricate Fusion takes the listener on a true musical journey.’

Cosmic Wave

WRR: Cosmic Wave is your new release. The guitar skills you show in your songs, are amazing. How did you learn playing guitar this way and who are your idols?
Gia G: ‘Hello thank you for the interview . thank you so much for the compliments on my music and playing 🙂 Well its a long story lol, ups and downs , just yrs of practicing and not just learning how to shred and be the fastest , much more then that. My idols , many different people , you mentioned 2 Joe and Steve , then of course Eddie Van Halen , Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page , Clapton , Hendrix , Randy Rhoads, Malmsteen, Vaughin, fusion players , blues players , classical, jazz, Bands like Queen , Metallica , Elvis , Sinatra , i have a wide range iIlisten to.’

WRR: How are the songs written and are your bandmates also involved in the writing process?
Gia G: ‘I write all of them , but I get ideas off of drums, but usually at my house I write everything.’

‘Reminiscing – This ballad shows another side of Gia’s music. Displaying her acoustic playing and slap acoustic playing. A great feel and vibe makes the listener day dream in a world all there own. Along with great solo leads, her lyrical style makes the guitar tell a story. The ending solo is truly one of the best lead solos Gia has done to date with an amazing feel, vibe and phrasing.’

Gitaren en skills

WRR: Which guitar is your favorite and why?
Gia G: ‘It varies , I play 7and 8 strings to , and classical, Acoustic Guitar. My favorite are probably my Custom shop Fender Strats , they just feel right to me and my hands, Fender was actually my first guitar I bought.’

WRR: Your skills look like you play the whole day. But, when you aren’t, what are you doing then?
Gia G: ‘Lol! Sometimes I do, and I have, but like recently I havent been able to play as much due to the release of the new EP and video, promoting, , networking asnwering questions and doing interviews.’

Toekomst

WRR: What can the fans expect in the upcoming months of you?
Gia G: ‘Me promoting the new EP and music videos coming with it. Also will be doing a lot of live demos at home for my endorsers and sponsors. I will also be doing studio recordings in my studio for another band i work with Infinite Sin , and do some live shows with them. recording and writing lead guitar, . and doing studio work for other people . Planning on doing internet show for GIA G and shows to, and writing the fulll length album.’
